A very interesting presentation by James Nachtwey, probably the greatest war photographer of our modern era if not ever. A very slobbering talk which raises a lot of questions. If you like this talk you should check out this move the war photographer.

On Sunday I spent the day at the Pacific Northwest Raptor Centre taking pictures of numerous birds of prey. Not a huge amount to say about it other than it was really cool. I got to see a lot of birds in a fairly natural setting that would be hard to find in a natural location. Most of the birds are bred in captivity to be used for education, pest control and in the film industry. They also take in injured birds and care for them and release them if possible. One of the main reasons they have the centre open is to raise the awareness and to teach people about these unique birds. I would highly recommend making a trip out to see the birds if you have a day or are going to be passing though Duncan. Many of the birds are out in the open and not behind cages or glass which is very nice and allows for some nice pictures or just a nice up close and personal view. They also do daily flying demonstrations which where really neat to see and quite entertaining. Now for some pictures!

I love owls, not exactly sure why but they had a few owls, this one is a great horned owl.

Not a raptor but still a very cool bird, a turkey vulture.

Going to start this post off with saying if there is anyone who does not believe in climate change they have not looked outside latley. It snowed again today. It maybe snows here three times a year if we are lucky but this year it has snowed a lot more and a few times this spring. Last weekend it was around 20 degrees and this weekend it was snowing… I made a trip out to Goldstream park to make the most of these winterly conditions.

I am sure nature was tossed a bit of a curve ball…

I am still getting the hang of my new camera but so far it seems great, I am off tomorrow to take some pictures of some birds of prey so make sure to check back for pictures of that.

Have not featured a photographer for awhile, have seen lots of good stuff but have not had time to post. Jeff Wall has just won the Audain Prize for his lifelong achievement in visual art. He is born, raised, lives and works out of Vancouver and is most well know for his large-scale back-lit cibachrome photographs. You can take a look at some of his work over on this site

It seems that the D3X has gained a bit more proof of existence as some references have showed up in the latests release of firmware. In the new firmware there was a list of the resolutions going all the way up to 24.4 Mega Pixels. I would assume it will be using the same sensor as the Sony A900, since Nikon has been using Sony sensors for some time. Should be interesting if this is the case but I am not holding my breath.
