This video is plain awesome, nature never ceases to amaze me. This is why documentation is always such an important and interesting thing to under take, researcher Kimberly Bostwick was in for quite an surprise when she discovered that the Cricket bird that is found in South America “moonwalks”.

Hornby Island

Hornby island is a fantastic gulf island just off of Vancouver Island. You take a ferry first to Denman island (another gulf island) and then a second ferry to Hornby. Hornby is a fantastic place that is full of things to do such as hiking, mountain biking, diving or just relaxing on one of the sandy beaches.

Hornby island does not have any provincial campgrounds but does have 2 private ones, these fill up fast and should be booked in advance. I have always stayed at Bradsdadsland which is much quieter than the one near Tribune bay which is much more party oriented. Every time I have been to Hornby I have always seen an amazing on at least one of the nights.

Helliwell provincial park is a must visit, as it has some stunning scenery that I have never really seen anywhere else. There is a great hike that takes you along some bluffs on the edge of sea cliffs. Some very stunning views.

Helliwell also home to a small old growth forest with some very large and gnarled trees.

Hornby island is a great place to visit with something for everyone. If you have the chance to go you should, be warned it can get quite busy once schools are out for summer.

A very cool stop motion video by Eyal Landesman. I love how simple this is yet very neat it is. The music works really well, maybe one day I will have the patients to try something like this.

On friday I went to a Amensty International film festival on human rights that was looking at some of the chalenges being faced in Africa. Today I found this interesting video on just a few of the problems and hardships faced in the Congo.

James Nachtey’s TED Prize

Today James Nachtey revealed what he did with his 2007 TED prize. He used his prize to travel the world to document XDR-TB, an extremely drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis. You can download the video in HD and find more info on the site that was setup for the project www.xdrtb.org.

Another fantastic multimedia presentation by Media Storm. This one is about urban sprawl which I can relate to, and I think most poeple can. Urban spraw has really been picking up here with the construction boom we are having, and instead of building up we are building out which is not alawys the best solution. A verty interesting presentation that is a must see.

TV photographer and police clash

Not really sure on the full story here but it looked like the police did not like what the photographer was doing, not really sure why he was attacked though. You can view the full raw footage here to see a little more of what happened.
