Nikon D3X

It seems that the D3X has gained a bit more proof of existence as some references have showed up in the latests release of firmware. In the new firmware there was a list of the resolutions going all the way up to 24.4 Mega Pixels. I would assume it will be using the same sensor as the Sony A900, since Nikon has been using Sony sensors for some time. Should be interesting if this is the case but I am not holding my breath.

Flickr Updates

If you are a Flickr user you are bound to have noticed but if not they added the ability to add 90 second videos if you are a pro user. I can see why Flickr did this, they already have a large base of creative talent and I can see why they would like to capitalize on this but it has seemed to have annoyed much of the current users. Flickr was a site for photographers to share photos. Sure maybe some photographers take video as well but there are already places you can host this. I can see how Flickr (Yahoo) is trying to create a place for people to put more serious and user created video that would be of higher quality than else where but it should have been separate or at least allow users to filter out videos if they do not wish to see them. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and if this service is better adopted over time or if Flickr will make some changes. We will have to wait and see. That was not the only update though, the max image size has been upped as well, for free users you can now upload a 10MB file while pro users can upload a 20MB file.

Adobe Photoshop Express

Today Adobe Photoshop Express was released today. If you have not heard of it , it is a FREE online photo editing tool which has all the basic editing you would expect from Photoshop. You can sign up for the beta for free and you get 2GB of room to store your photos. I can see this being a great tool to quickly crop edit photos for blogs and such or when you are away from your main computer.

Canon 5D Mark II Specs and Details (Rumored)

Well it looks like there are more rumours of the Canon 5D Mark II like I reported in November. Once again this rumour stems from a message board. Here are the fun details.

The new 5D II will not be released at Photokina, but instead will be a surprise announcement on April 22, according to a source I am unwilling to disclose.

The specs of the new camera are as follows (final name unavailable):

- 15.3 MP full frame CMOS sensor (vastly improved light-gathering capacity per pixel: improved micro lenses; miniaturized micro circuitry; enhanced signal/noise ratio)

- Weather sealing same as 1Ds Mark III

- Dual Digic III with all-new “CXR” NR system reported to best 3rd party NR software. Available as a C.F with 4 levels of customizable parameters.

14 bit A/D conversion

- ISO 12800 (C.F. up to 25600)

- Reported 1 2/3 stop sensitivity improvement

- All-new 29-point TTL CMOS sensor

with 12 cross-type for F/2.8 or faster lens

(35% faster than 40D)

- Micro lens fine adjustment for up to 14 lenses

- 300,000 exposure shutter durability

- 6.0 / 3.0 fps

- 3.0″ LCD

922,000 pixels

- EOS Integrated Cleaning System

- Live View (improved from 450D; latest generation)

- 6/3 fps continuous shooting for up to 68 frames

- MSRP $3499, available June 2

Looks like it will be out sooner than later and should be interesting to see how the D300 from Nikon fairs against it. I am hoping that this will maybe prompt Nikon to make a full frame D300, which would be nice.

Evidence of My Existence

jimloscalzo_book.jpgThe Evidence of My Existence multimedia show has just been awarded an “Award Of Excellence” at POYi 65 for multimedia multimedia feature story. If you have not heard about it, which I kind of doubt, it is multimedia memoir by US News & World Report photojournalist Jim Lo Scalzo. Combining narration from paragraphs in his book and his personal pictures and videos it makes for a very interesting and entertaining 10 minutes. I would highly recommend his book for anyone who enjoys a well written entertaining read. If you are into photography or not you will be able to find laughter and will pick up a lot of interesting things you probably did not know about news and (photo)journalism.
