I have not posted for a while due to the fact that I went on a 10 day road trip through BC and into Alberta. I have finally got a number of photos edited and I should be posting more each day.

I started my journey in Victoria and made my way toward Lac le Jeune to spend my first night. I have spent a few nights here before and have always been impressed with the wildlife that you are able to spot here specially birds. This time did not disappoint as I found a number of bird nests and was able get some great shots.

I have been going back on a semi regular basis and little seems to have changed. Was out there again tonight and instead of just taking more shots of the killdeers I also did a few landscapes.

I have been exceptionally busy and I was out of town for the long weekend and weekend the weather was less than ideal but I still managed to get out for a bit to get some photos. This morning I made a trip over to Albert Head Lagoon looking for shore birds. While the tide was up and there was not much of the tidal flat exposed there where a number of Killdeers around, some of which where nesting. I spent the better part of the morning crawling around in the tidal flats chasing after these guys.

This past weekend I was visiting Naniamo and spent a few hours enjoying the spring like weather down at Neck Point park. While I was there the tide was very low and a pair of Canadian Geese caught my eye on one of the little islands just off shore. Since the tide was low enough I was able to make it over fine, but on the way back I did get wet. The things you will do for a few photos!

This past weekend I decided to make the drive up to Port Renfrew and while I was there check out Botanical beach. I made it up to Port Renfrew and it was very foggy, at times three was less than 50 meters of viability. My plans for finding some birds at Pachena bay where dampened by the fog a lots of people fishing for pink salmon so I decided to head down to Botanical beach.

Since it was high tide and was very foggy I didn’t really get any tide pool shots or and landscapes of the beach but I did manage to get some of the lush temperate coastal rain forest. This old growth rain forest is simply stunning and a must see for anyone.

After spending most of the day in Port Renfrew it was time to head back to Victoria. On the way back I made a few stops. My first stop was at one of the many rivers that cross the road.

Once again on the road I made another stop at Jordan river as the sun decided to to come out so I enjoyed the ocean view for awhile before making the final leg of the trip home.

Overall it was a fantastic day trip trip even if the weather was not the best you have to make the best out of it.

On Sunday I spent the day at the Pacific Northwest Raptor Centre taking pictures of numerous birds of prey. Not a huge amount to say about it other than it was really cool. I got to see a lot of birds in a fairly natural setting that would be hard to find in a natural location. Most of the birds are bred in captivity to be used for education, pest control and in the film industry. They also take in injured birds and care for them and release them if possible. One of the main reasons they have the centre open is to raise the awareness and to teach people about these unique birds. I would highly recommend making a trip out to see the birds if you have a day or are going to be passing though Duncan. Many of the birds are out in the open and not behind cages or glass which is very nice and allows for some nice pictures or just a nice up close and personal view. They also do daily flying demonstrations which where really neat to see and quite entertaining. Now for some pictures!

A golden eagle.

And of course the bald eagle.

I love owls, not exactly sure why but they had a few owls, this one is a great horned owl.

Not a raptor but still a very cool bird, a turkey vulture.
