Last weekend while I was in Nanaimo for the long weekend I hiked out to Ammonite Falls in Benson Creek Regional Park to take a look at the falls. The last time I had been it was in the middle of summer and the falls was reduced to a trickle. This time was a bit of a different experience, with all the rain and snow in the mountains the creek and the falls was very big.

Looking downstream from below the falls.
A smaller water fall above the main falls
Although falls its self is protected by the Benson Creek Park much of the land around the park is being logged or developed. Walking the most popular route to the falls you will slowly have to pass by more and more signs of development and logging.

This past weekend I was visiting Naniamo and spent a few hours enjoying the spring like weather down at Neck Point park. While I was there the tide was very low and a pair of Canadian Geese caught my eye on one of the little islands just off shore. Since the tide was low enough I was able to make it over fine, but on the way back I did get wet. The things you will do for a few photos!

I was back in Lantzville for the weekend, although it rained most of the time I did manage to make it out to Neck Point for a little bit.

It has just been crazy busy the last few weeks. On the weekend I attended Brent and Natalies wedding in Nanaimo and was asked to take some pictures. I have to say it was quite an interesting day and I have a lot of respect for wedding photographers, they don’t have an easy job. The light was poor in almost all of the venues, whether dark (church) or very harsh sunlight at some local parks. I wish them the best and I hope they had a good time.

This weekend I was back in Nanaimo for my mums birthday and it made me realize what I took for granted before I moved down to Victoria. One of the things I miss most about the Nanaimo area is how accessible the great out doors is. Nanaimo has some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen and they are all very accessible. A ten minute drive can get you to mountains, forests, beaches or all three. It is a great place for out doors activities.

The sun has finally emerged from where is was hiding, I really hope it does not go back into hiding. Now that the days are getting longer I am hoping to be able get more pictures and with the weather getting better (I hope) I will be able to make more trips to make pictures in new locations.
